thrashingcows Posted November 1, 2012 Report Posted November 1, 2012 I've been searching through the archives, and could not find a definite answer. Will the 46-48 Plymouth/Dodge metal tanks from Tanks Inc work in my 48 Desoto? I came across one post where a forum member put one in his D24...these D24 are the same basic size as the Chrysler's and Desotos...right? So that should mean I could use this tank in my 48 Desoto? Just wanted to get the opinions of the experts before I drop $250 on a new tank. Quote
thrashingcows Posted November 1, 2012 Author Report Posted November 1, 2012 Thank you for the confirmation. That is what I thought, but wanted to be sure. Quote
thrashingcows Posted November 1, 2012 Author Report Posted November 1, 2012 I plan on using an aftermarket unit. But modifications are no problem. Quote
Mike Petersen Posted November 1, 2012 Report Posted November 1, 2012 There is a oem tank on Ebay. Posted a few days ago. I had my oem tank cleaned out and reused it. Quote

Just wanted to get the opinions of the experts before I drop $250 on a new tank. We bought the tank as illustrated. I had planned of a cleaning & re-coating of the OEM tank for about $75. Wrong! The estimate came in between $250 & $275. For that price, I cought the tank (from Tanks) for $250. Now I know what I have in our 48 S11. A NEW tank. The only downside is it's 2 1/2 gallons smaller than OEM. I still have the OEM tank. It's solid, but minus the sending unit. It's available for $50 + shipping) from Michigan. Quote
thrashingcows Posted November 5, 2012 Author Report Posted November 5, 2012 Thanks agian for the comments and experiences guys...appreciate it. Here's what my tank looked like when I pulled it out of Fernando... Had about 8lbs of sand, rust and debris in the bottom too. Never seen a tank that bad before. Quote
Robert Horne Posted November 10, 2012 Report Posted November 10, 2012 Here is a photo of a Jeep fuel tank. These are available on ebay, for around $100. I believe they hold about 15 gallons. Quote
thrashingcows Posted November 10, 2012 Author Report Posted November 10, 2012 What year of Jeep for that tank? Quote
Robert Horne Posted November 10, 2012 Report Posted November 10, 2012 I believe this was around 1980. I see many of these replacement tanks on ebay. The ones from the late 70s look to fit our Plymouths ok.... Quote
