DollyDodge
I must have been in ozone land yesterday. I just read what I wrote, and I was thinking one thing "fly wheel" and wrote "bell housing" I have corrected what I wrote. Here are some pictures of my engine block. It is exciting to see work begin on it. Apparently there was a lot of work done on the engine that none of my family remembers, and the old girl has been in our family since she was new. The crank was welded to the flywheel (the machinist had a lot of work to get it off), and the bolts that hold the flywheel on were really short and cut off. The machinist thinks maybe someone wanted to pull the flywheel without pulling the engine and bell housing, and cut the bolts to get them off, but who knows. Also, the welsh plugs on the back have been replaced and had silicon on them. He also said the engine has been rebuilt at least once beyond what work was done in the 70s when I was in High School (honed the cylinders, new rings, new main bearings). Anyway, it has some history that no one remembers anymore, besides the bent engine mounts I mentioned in previous posts, which are also a mystery. We are meeting this week to decide what needs to be done with the engine. Is there anything that should be done during the rebuild that people sometimes forget? Any other thoughts on the rebuild that would lead to a good job would be appreciated. Edited May 9, 2012 by DollyDodge
