KK & Paul H...........I stand corrected........my apologies........looks like a 727 trans to me, very good.......I think you should be able to dissassemble the handbrake and leave all the bracketry off, the drum if its the same as those used on the cast iron trans should have a separate hub that should be able to be removed from the drum just leaving the hub and then just use the standard sliding joint with the uni joint on it & tailshaft.

Life is good......I learnt something today....thanks, andyd

Thanks Andy, Sounds like I got the prefered year setup. Good info on the trans I was hoping that It could be changed over to a slip yoke. So it's a 727 right? With the engine being a 64 would it be better to upgrade to a newer trans (LA) or keep what I got?

I've always been under the impression that if it has an alloy trans then all of the late trans should just bolt up because the alloy trans has, or should have a separate flex plate with the ring gear attached to it and the correct spacing for any of the later trans.

The cast iron trans as far as I was led to believe and have seen always had a torque converter that bolted onto the crank flange(with no flexplate) with the ring gear on the outside edge of the converter.

But am happy to be proven wrong........lol.......andyd
