Recently I was rebuilting the Master Cylinder, and had the floor out to do so.... like other folks have, I noticed the rear motor mounts were at pancake high and decided to replace them.... yesterday I set out change them and when bolting it back together i found that the motor mount holes and the bellhousing holes didn't line up by 1/2 to 3/4". It looked as though the engine was positioned to the rear.

I looked at the front mounts and couldn't really tell if they have moved or what condition they are in.

I looked at the old rear mounts and they are both egged pretty badly. I searched for posts on a problem like this, but what I found was mostly discussion about the rear mounts.

If I change out the front mounts to try to shift the motor forward, where is the lift point?

any other ideas appreciated.

Sounds as if your engine shifted to the rear once you removed the rear engine mounts. Use a pry bar and see if you can shift the engine towards the front of the car to correctly position the rear engine mounts. Once you have the rear mounts secured then go after the front mount. Using a bottle jack with a hunk of 2X4 under the front of the oil pan will work to lift the front of the engine enough to remove the front engine mount once the nuts securing the floating power bracket have been removed.

I strongly suggest you not remove both the front and rear engine mounts at the same time.

Don... I took your pry bar suggestion to heart but couldn't find a place to pry in the right direction. So ended up with a comealong from the frame to behind the trany and back to the frame.

with a little hockying the bolts went in.

I am left with a grudge against the front mounts, so I think I will try to find some and replace them.

Thanks for the comment,
