Plymouth Trunk Handle question

Has anyone ever replaced the trunk handle on their Plymouth......my 1940 Oz Dodge uses the same trunk handle/licence plate light holder as a USA 1940 Plymouth and where it fits in the diecast mount it has quite a lot of wear & slop........there is a NOS handle on ebay at present but I am wondering how to replace the handle if I did get the new one as there is a crimped on "sleeve" that holds the handle on & I cannot work out how to remove the sleeve in one piece, let alone replace it afterwards...........anyone got any ideas?........this is the best pic I could find of the rear of the car............thanks........andyd

If you ruin the clip that holds it in you can drill and tap the end of the shaft and used a machine screw and washer to hold it in place.....On my P12, the handle was sloppy in the mechanism so i removed it and found the shaft had a big groove where it fit thru the latch...cure...weld up and file till it fit properly
