Pete you probably have as much or more in your head alone than I have in all my machine work.

Not quite, James... but close. I paid $600 for the head. They sell for more $$$ now, I'm glad I bought when I did.

I paid about $1000 for the machinework, which included hot tank, line boring to .030" over, installation of cam bearings, cam, tappets, valveguides, and valves, valve job, cam re-grind, and a complete balance of all rotating parts.

Then there's the NOS 230 crank, reconditioned 230 rods, NOS 230 flywheel, vintage intake, headers, ARP head studs, HEI, carbs, air cleaner, alternator, rebuild to 12v starter, and all the stock rebuild parts like pistons, rings, bearings, gaskets, oil pump, fuel pump, water pump thermostat... $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

But I love it, and wouldn't have it any other way. When I turn the key, the planets align and all is right in my world.:D

Even though I know that a SBC would be cheaper I have inline engines in every vehicle we own. I have a 235 I/6 in my pick up and the 218 I/6 in the 48 Plymouth and would not change either of them even though it costs more to rebuild and modify them than a SBC and still have less power. This months Street Rodder has a picture of a full dress 235 I/6 Chevy, what a beauty. Your engine with the finned head is a real beauty, no overhead valve V-8 can compare to a full dressed flatty, they are real eye candy.
