Cpt.Fred Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 car lifts are great! i visited a friend this saturday and we went to the hall were he works on his car and motorcycles. it's really huge and full of great old wooden boats and yachts. and it features a car lift... i love it. i did all the lubrication work, checked and adjusted all bearings and did a major brake service. remember i wrote something about a rubbing noise and, more recently, a faint knocking from the undercarriage? that's what i found:eek: the emergency brake band must have had contact all the time, just a little (i could easily push the car around by hand on my own), the lining vanished and the whole thing got so hot it literally boiled the grease out of the cardan joint... yikes. i took the whole e-brake mechanism away to get it redone and put fresh grease into the joint. now there is complete silence again. afterwards i changed the speedo cable and it got even more quiet. and i did this nice panoramic view of the undercarriage. now we all know where the oil goes while driving anyway, the car drives great now and i'm very happy! aero3113 Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 Nice work, I like the panoramic shot. Do you have any pics of the wooden boats and yachts? Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 That's great, Fred. Looks like a great place to work. Did you have any problem adjusting your emergency brake? I started to do mine and got it close, then figured I'd leave it for later. Anyway, your car is looking really good. I like the old patina. Do you know anything about its history? Didn't you buy it over here in the States? Quote
Cpt.Fred Posted August 15, 2011 Author Report Posted August 15, 2011 aero: not really:o you can see one of them in the background here, but i'll take some pics next time i come there. they're really very nice. joe: yes i did, i bought it at Loughmiller Motors in Pittsburg, Kansas. all i know is that it belonged to some gentleman in Arkansas since 1940, that is was dry stored for a really long time and that it must have been registered in Bob Toft's neighbourhood (Joplin, Missouri) in 1968 because it has a registration sticker on the windshield saying just that. Loughmiller bought it from the widow of the PO and set it up for sale on oldrides.com. that's were i found it. all info is from the seller, though, so there is nothing i could proof except the Joplin episode.
