Big_John Posted August 6, 2011 Report Posted August 6, 2011 Somewhere in it's history, there was '50 Chrysler engine installed with manifold and carb in my '53 Chrysler. As you guys probably know, the '53 has a divorced choke and the '50 has a Sisson choke. I can't find a gasket for the choke housing to the manifold. The original was in bad shape and came off in pieces so reusing it is out. From searching here, I'm of the understanding that the gasket is really there to insulate the bi-metal spring from direct contact with the heat of the manifold. I'm thinking of making one from a piece of exhaust gasket (Mr Gasket brand) that's 1/16 thick, perhaps even doubling the gasket if needed. Any thoughts or do anyone know who stocks this gasket? Quote
Tom Skinner Posted August 6, 2011 Report Posted August 6, 2011 Big John, Some guy with a handle "Kookymonster" on ebay sold them for a long time. I haven't seen him in a while on the 1948 Chrysler offerings but maybe you can find him if you search. I believe he was getting like $6 ea. for them. The Gasket is about 1/16 in. thick though if your handy and make one. It seems it was sort of asbestos on each side with a real thin metalic sandwich in the center in material composition If I had an extra I would send it to you. I checked my Vintage Power Wagon, Andy Bernbaum, and Roberts Catalogs for you - no luck there. I bought 1 on ebay about 4 years ago, I should have bought more. Good luck on your search. Tom Quote
Tom Skinner Posted August 6, 2011 Report Posted August 6, 2011 Big John, I just searched ebay for Kookymonster and could not find him. He was real big on selling Water Gaskets also like the Gooseneck and By-Pass Gaskets etc. Good Luck. I think I would venture to make one at this point unless you luck up on one. I even searched Sisson Chokes - nada. Tom Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted August 6, 2011 Report Posted August 6, 2011 I got mine from Kookymonster. It seems like some kind of asbestos material. It's stiff and fibrous. I checked the usual vendors and no one carries them that I know of. It's an easy shape to cut but you need to find the right material. Quote
Big_John Posted August 7, 2011 Author Report Posted August 7, 2011 the seller is kukymonsternone listed at this time part # 647834 EDIT amsobsolete formerly mitchells may have it. expect to pay a little more Just sent a message to Kukymonster. We'll see if he has any. Mitchells show that p/n on a search of their website. I've tried before to get their prices via email on other parts that show up in a search and have never gotten a response. Quote
Big_John Posted August 9, 2011 Author Report Posted August 9, 2011 Kukymonster does not have any more. I'll try my second choice, AMS Obsolete, but I think I'm going to end up making one myself. Thanks everyone. Quote
