rockable Posted March 27, 2011 Report Posted March 27, 2011 I'm afraid to remove the trunk lid springs in my '41. I'm afraid I'll never get them back installed. Anyone ever do this? How.........besides three grown men and a pry bar? Quote
plymouthasc Posted March 28, 2011 Report Posted March 28, 2011 The springs on the coupe are much harder to remove and replace than the manual says. The manual talks about the springs for the sedan that don't seem to have as much tension. I removed my springs by getting inside the trunk, closing the lid and using heavy safety wire to tie the springs in the compressed position. I used 3 wires on each spring. When I opened the trunk, the springs came right out of the slot that holds them. After completing the work, I reversed the process and cut the wire while the trunk lid was closed. In this way the springs were never uncompressed. I don't think you could get them back on the guide without a press of some kind otherwise. Mark Quote
rockable Posted March 28, 2011 Author Report Posted March 28, 2011 Thanks, Mark. That's a good idea. I agree that you couldn't get them back on without some sort of press. Those things are STRONG. Quote
