CTCarguy Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 The engine on my 41 Plymouth was frozen (not the cold kind like outside) when I bought it. I soaked the cylinder for a couple of weeks but no help. Next I removed the head and soaked each piston for a few days until the Marvel Mystery oil drained down easily. We rocked the car but it has not moved even a few thousandths. Today I removed the oil pan. Not much sludge at all and no metal particles. I noticed that all of the rod bearing end caps were black and oily except for #6. It was dry with a very slight rust color. I loosened the cap and made sure it split about a 16th. Tried to turn the crank, but no help. Next I loosened all of the rod bearing caps and made sure they split but no help. I'm soaking the rod bearings with Blast over night to see if it loosens the crankshaft. If not, I plan to either remove the bearing end caps (numbered) or loosen the main beating caps. I did check to insure the clutch released so that's not the problem. This is the first flathead I've done in about 40 years. Am I missing something? I'm hoping to get this engine running as is but if not, I will most likely find a replacement. Having it rebuilt is just not in the budget now or in the future. Quote
41/53dodges Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 have you checked out the valves? you have to consider, 12 valves, 12 places for failure... Quote
