H Suhling Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 I thought I had my charging problem solved I took the generator to the repair shop he put it on the machine and it showed it was working ok. I put it and a new regulator on and it showed to be charging. Two days later I start the truck up again and it is back to not charging. Does it sound like a ground problem? I would think that the screws holding the regulator to the firewall would be a good enough of a ground. Harvey Quote
MBF Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 You may want to check that you have a good body-chassis to engine ground. I converted my 52 to 12 volts a couple of years back-I don't remember if the old regulator was insulated from the cab or grounded to it-but I know on my big Ford that it has to be grounded. Intermittant electrical problems can drive you crazy as you probably already know. Are you experiencing any other electrial problems? MBF Quote
grey beard Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 Did you polaize the unit after it was in the shop and the new regulator was installed? If not, might try that - only takes a minute. LOL Quote

Don Coatney Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 Try installing an engine to body ground strap as pictured. I am a firm believer that you cannot have too many ground connections on 60 year old cars. Quote
H Suhling Posted March 21, 2007 Author Report Posted March 21, 2007 Thanks, I will give ground strap a try. Harvey Quote
