KJ's Dodge Posted August 30, 2010 Report Posted August 30, 2010 (edited) The truck ran well today for the most part. She did make 60+ mph and 55 was pretty comfortable on the flats. It got noticed a lot in town. As a result of taking my first longer trip I have a much bigger to do list. 1. I have a fan belt, one of the two starting to frey and ready to go. Do you know size, length or would you have a part number for me. I will replace both of them well I am at it. 2. The last hill pull, the truck was bucking or surging. Probably ignition as result of #3. 3. At about that same time, I started to look at my gauges a little closer and my amps were negative. Thoughts here. Do I need to worry that have lost that big generator or regulator? Did the generator need to be polarized or something? 4. Speedo is good for the most part in low but bouncing or at 0 mph while in high unless I am really going and then it seems to be fine in high if I am doing 50+. 5. After I fueled up, I found a fuel leak at the seam on the back side of the gas tank. Recommendations for a fix here. 6. I may still have some air in the brake system because the pedal is not as hard as I think it should be but it does stop fine. Thanks for the help as always. 41/53dodges Posted August 30, 2010 Report Posted August 30, 2010 #5 is your tank rusty at all? do you have the stock steel tank? have you seen the top? (most likely to rot) if it is worth saving, then drain all fuel, pull the tank, fill it with water and flush continuously, and then hire a good welder to weld it. i know wire feed is usually not good for sealing, so that is why i say that. i myself had an aluminum tank made by a friend for $100. My tank is in great shape. Must be zinc lined or something because it is like new in the interior. The seam has a real slow drip leak. So, welding it maybe my best approach. It will be a Fall/Winter project and for now I will not top it, keeping it below the seam. Thanks, KJ Quote
41/53dodges Posted August 30, 2010 Report Posted August 30, 2010 that, or there is also tank sealing solution that you could dump into the empty tank. i have never used it, but have heard of it. Quote
