Dodgefran Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 Has anyone put a more powerful (productive) water pump on thsir flathead six. I have a big block DeSoto engine that is being remanufactured. The water pump on it has two blades to push the water around. Is there such a thing as a three blad impellar? Or is the original pump adaquate for the engine? Thanks. Quote
Lou Earle Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 more than adequate!! Overheating was never a problem with Chrysler products. Many folks run Ac' units and 12 v generators or alternators and use stock fan and radiator. One fellow runs a 12 alternator a 6 v generator and a ac unit on the stock flathead engine and uses the stock fan a radiator. By the way a pump moving more water can actually cause the water to overheat and boil!! Ford had that problem with the 2 pumps on the v/8. The solution- knock off some blades to slow water flow!! Normspeed Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 Just as important as the pump is that water distribution tube behind the pump. Make sure your rebuilder gets all of the old one out and a new one in. They don't cost much at all and they're readily available. . Quote
