Okay, after a few things I got her running "YIPPEE":D. I wasn't sure how to adjust the throttle and choke for initial start up. Maybe someone out there can shed some light on that? The carb was spittin something terrible  Anyway I purchased a carb rebuild kit so that's the next step. Anyone have any tricks or tips on a carb rebuild for this carb? Oh, and anyone possibly have a spare dipstick I could purchase? Mine bit the dust as I pulled it out. So after I fix the carb it on to the brakes:cool:

This is turning out to be quite a fun project :D :D

So glad I made this purchase.

HEY!! Hello from Oklahoma, just another displaced San Diegan.

I had to hide out in Julian during the fires of '03 when we got chased out of Alpine. I was Born and raised there and part of the great Lutz empire. (hahaha)

I might have one out of the '54, but it will be a week before I can get out there to get it.

Hello Mike,

Do you miss living here? I know many poeple were displaced from the fire. How is it in OK.? My family and I have been in Julian for about 7 months. Before that we lived in Carlsbad, but prior to that I lived in Wasilla Alaska. Much colder in AK. but living in Julian reminds me of Alaska.

Glad to hear you got her running. The carb is a lot easier than the brakes. Although it's a simple unit, pay lots of attention to how it came apart, and lots of attention to the blow up sketch in the kit. There is, for instance, a tiny washer that goes under the step-up piston. It seems to be left out by a lot of folks. It's important. Also, be sure you choose the correct gaskets for the lower section and for the carb-to-manifold, there are usually some different configurations in the kit. There are 2 check balls in the carb. One is retained with a clip and usually doesn't need to come out. The other is under a threaded brass plug. If you replace it with one from the kit, be sure you match the size correctly, there are two sizes in most kits. Let us know if you get in a jam.

Oklahoma is ok (no pun) I miss the weather, and my grandparents in Alpine, but not much else. 7 months, hmmm? How do you like the apple pies in Julian?

Oklahoma has weather, it's finally warming up. some snow and ice in the winters, and here in this town; it gets hot and VERY humid in the summers as well as the wind ALWAYS blows.

But I went from a shack of a duplex in Alpine at $1,750/mo. to OWNING a 2br 1075 sq. ft. house here for $225/month. the house was only $26,000.

I'm complacent here, but we will be moving in about a year to around Yakima, Wa.

Mike,

I was eating quite a bit of apple pie when we first moved here. Now I'm getting rid of all the extra weight I gained from it, lol. We have 3 apple trees in the yard. I used to suffer from some terrible heartburn until I found out about how eating apples will cure it. Every day I eat an apple (mainly Red Delicious.) and it keeps it at bay without having to take all the meds I used to.

Its really cool to find a place that is affordable these days. that's how it was in Alaska too. Our goal is to purchase some land here and build an Earthship. Like the ones in New Mexico. We would like to live off grid, grow our own veges, etc.

ramona is long gone, before my time even.

Carlsbad closed in '03 forever

now there's just 1/8th mile drags at qualcomm stadium.
