I bought a lot of N.O.S. autolite breaker plates from ebay and so far everyone of them has had the grease hardened in the bearing between the top and bottom plates . The bearing doesn't have to turn very far , about 3/16 " , but these wouldn't turn at all . To free up these bearings , gently pry the top and bottom plates apart and add a little oil to the grease and work the bearing back and forth . The two plates just snap back together with thumb pressure . The top plate attaches to the arm from the vacuum advance . Moral of the story ; If you have 60 year old grease on your bearing it is now dry .

That's what I like about old grease, after sitting for over 50 years on my chassis, I just had to take hammer and (wood) chisel the get it off leaving a clean chassis. :D
