Joe Flanagan Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 I started putting gas in my tank in preparation for the big moment when I realized the tank is leaking at the drain plug on the bottom. It's a recessed star-shaped plug that is similar to a Torx socket but looks like it has a lot more points to it. Does anyone know if a regular Torx bit will work on this? I'll make sure to replace any washer or gasket that was once there as that is likely the culprit. Quote
moose Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 I think it's an eight point star. Maybe you can use a 1/2" ratchet. Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted February 22, 2010 Author Report Posted February 22, 2010 Yeah, either that or a nut welded to the end of a bolt. If it fits in there snugly, just put a socket on the other end and turn. I'm going to see what fits but I'd like to wait for the gas to stop dripping. Quote

Joe Flanagan Posted February 22, 2010 Author Report Posted February 22, 2010 He had it exactly right. I went out there and tried a 1/2" extension and it fit like a glove. The washer around the plug had completely deteriorated. Can I use normal rubber for this or do I have to use something special. Isn't rubber used in the short line to the fuel pump? Just want to double check before I get ahead of myself. Quote
