Powerhouse Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 Hello, I am in need of new shocks on my 39 roadking all around. I bought the Gabriel fronts #49110 which is supposed to be the same as NAPA 5752. The dimension of the gabriel part is 21 7/8 inches extended and 14 7/8 compressed...I can barely get the thing on the mounts fully compressed. PROBLEM...my old shocks are way smaller, measuring 15 3/4 ext. & 10 3/4 comp. with a part number of C8C74B or 733690...no name. WHAT GIVES?! I checked the part number for shocks and they are the same from 37-50...1325997 front and 1325998 rear according to mitchell motor parts. ANYONE with info on 39 shock absorber part #'s please help. I have a set of MA727 on order...I don't want to pay for them if they are the wrong size as well. Quote
PatS.... Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 On the main page of this website in the "Parts List" section, GTK has listed the following for front shocks: NAPA Part # LE 1002 OR LE 10002 Monroe PD25EA (he notes this number is from an on hand box so MAY be obsolete) Quote
Robert Horne Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 On my 38 Couple, I used shocks listed for 1986 Dodge. These shocks compressed smaller, and extended more than the originals. Quote

I just checked online with napa...none of those are translating into parts. I guess they are obsolete P#s Quote

Powerhouse Posted February 6, 2010 Author Report Posted February 6, 2010 More info... with shock absorber removed from car the distance between mounting studs outer edge to outer edge is 12.5 extended and 10.75 compressed with jack. The old shock absorber extends to 15.75 and compresses to 10.75 outer loop to outer loop... I'm off to Napa Quote
HughForrest Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 "Pro Shocks" sold by Speedway Motors and others has a model #SM 600 that is 10.5" compressed, 16.5" extended, 13.5" suggested ride hgt. A bit more expensive at $48 each, but also (supposedly) higher quality/performance. Quote
Powerhouse Posted February 6, 2010 Author Report Posted February 6, 2010 Thanks for checking that out for me. I just got back from Napa where i got the 5752 shocks. I brought them to autozone and showed them the difference in the cross referenced parts they sold me. I got my money back...and I told them to change the darn cross reference number...that's the second time i have had them mis cross reference a part number. kind of annoying. I installed the 5752 parts and they fit right in...I greased all the fittings in the front suspension...and took her for a spin...the difference is amazing. Now for the rears...I am waiting on parts. Niel Hoback Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 Now you know why I call autozone "Ozone". Thats where their heads are. Quote
Powerhouse Posted February 6, 2010 Author Report Posted February 6, 2010 AGREED...as are most retail parts house employees under 40 years old Quote
