Gotta feel good after being down for that long. Ever determine what exactly caused the head gaskets to go?

i'm pretty sure it was the busted rings (as in most every ring on each piston).

older thread. hadn't started the truck since march, yet a few days ago, when i went to use it, it started faster than i could remove my foot from the starter button. truck idles nicely.

really, when these engines are right, they start very easily. if it doesn't start quickly, something is either out of adjustment, broken, or installed incorrectly.

i need to lift the hoist to fill the reservoir, since that seal leaks. i'll have to use the 9n to lift it, and then block it up while i add hyd oil to the cylinder. a disadvantage to not using the truck for several months.

one other thing related to the rebuild. the oil pressure relief valve was installed backwards (with the spring to the inner side of the block, and the "plug" to the outer side, towards the cap). took a while to figure out why i had low/no oil pressure. i kept thinking it was the pump, which i tested, and measured, prior to reinstalling. with it installed the correct way, pressure is 40 (according to the dash gauge).

looking forward to bringing home cordwood this fall (and manure for the garden), lumber for the garage, etc.
