John Burke Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 It's either poop or get off the pot so I went out and finished what I needed and got the old gal covered with high build primer. I still found a couple of spots that will require some more attention. This was a good opportunity to give the wifes nephew a chance to practice painting. After a little discourse on mixing and such, I showesd him a little technique then handed him the gun and said I'll be back. I let him go at it for about 10 minuets then checked up on him. After a couple of more pointers and some minor adjustments, I let him finnish it off..If you don't give these kids the opportunity to do this stuff they'll never learn.....John Burke Quote
glendale Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 did you put a sbc in that car? that very cool that you let the kid do that. Quote
John Burke Posted February 10, 2007 Author Report Posted February 10, 2007 Yes I put a SBC in the car. It was a 93 with a 700R-4 trans....I downgraded it back to carbueration and a Dist....Got rid of the computer stuff..It goes to the shop for an exhaust system soon...then a few more tweaks and she'll be up and running. It gets the final paint around May...John Quote
Normspeed Posted February 11, 2007 Report Posted February 11, 2007 Great project. It's gonna be a sleeper with the sbc in there. Quote
JerseyHarold Posted February 11, 2007 Report Posted February 11, 2007 John, How did you mount the motor and trans? Any photos? Thanks. Harold Quote
John Burke Posted February 11, 2007 Author Report Posted February 11, 2007 John,How did you mount the motor and trans? Any photos? Thanks. Harold Harold, here are some photo's of the motor and tranny mounts I bought from Ply Do...It was a pretty easy installation...very close clearance around the steering gear Quote
52B3B108 Posted February 11, 2007 Report Posted February 11, 2007 How did you ventilate the garage? My son had a friend repaint his truck in my garage a few years ago and I don't think they had enough clean air to breath. Quote
John Burke Posted February 12, 2007 Author Report Posted February 12, 2007 Welllllll....in the first place I was'nt in there very much....in the second place we used an HVLP gun and the build up primer is really thick stuff and we used a really good dust mask assembly. we made it as user friendly as we could..john Quote
JerseyHarold Posted February 12, 2007 Report Posted February 12, 2007 Thanks for posting the photos. I know the purists might be upset with a Chevy V8 in the car, but the upgrade makes a lot of sense if you're using it in modern traffic (especially with the automatic trans). Are you upgrading the brakes as well? Quote

Are you upgrading the brakes as well? Harold I did upgrade the binders with the addition of a swing pedal assembly and a firewall mounted brake booster and dual chamber master cylinder. All of this I got from Speedway motors. Some fabrication was invoved.. Hope these photo's show what I did...John Quote
