Guest Kuster13 Posted November 29, 2009 Report Posted November 29, 2009 What's a good thing to do with the inside of the doors. Paint, sealer, rust inhibitor??? There is the usual surface rust but now that all the repairs are done I was thinking I should do something to the inside of the door before finishing the outside. Any ideas and help is, as always, appreciated. Tom Quote
grey beard Posted November 29, 2009 Report Posted November 29, 2009 Get on the internet and find a source for ZeroRust. It's about $50 bukzz a gallon, and you can thin it with lacquer thinner. Use this stuff to paint any bare or rusty metal. It will stick to any metal surface unbelievably. It is much better and easier to use than POR 15 and only half the cost. Learned about it from our own GTK, web master on this fourm. It's great stuff, and will last like forever. Once this stuff dries, go to Lowes to their roofing department. They sell butyl rubber in various width rolls that is for roof valleys, called Peel n' Seal. Cut this stuff to size, peel the backing off, and stick it into place inside your door panels and wherever you can reach. Go the the insulation department and get a two-foot wide roll of duct insulation, the sort that is foil on both sides and has bubbles in the middle. Then while your still at Lowes, go to the paint dept and get a spray can of 3M's best quality spray adhesive. Spray this onto the peel'n seal and then stick pieces of bubble insulation to it. I used this recipe on my cab floor, rear wall, fireewall and toe boards, as well as the insides of each door. The peel 'n seal is excellent panel sound deadener and the insulation helps keep heat out and sound down. Lastly, go to your local carpet store and buy a bunch of remnant carpet pad - the 5/8-inch thick stuff the use under carpet, and glue this onto your foil insulation. You will have a very quiet, well insulated cab. Total cost will be less than 100 dollars, and you will be just as happy as I am with this recipe in my own Pilothouse. Quote
Guest Kuster13 Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 Thanks Grey Beard. I have used ZeroRust on the underside of the cab floor and it worked out great. I was going to use it for the interior of the cab. I just never thought about the inside of the doors. Thanks again. Tom Quote
