stevenelle Posted January 30, 2007 Report Posted January 30, 2007 Sort of embarrassed to ask this - it should be a simple thing. I have had three recently installed freeze plugs blow out on three different occassions after the engine gets good and hot. I hammered the convex side pretty darn hard at installation I thought. Just how much of the curve are you supposed to take out when you hammer those babies in? Is it possible to hit them too hard? I used 1 5/8 plugs. Quote
Guest Nile Limbaugh Posted January 30, 2007 Report Posted January 30, 2007 First time I put mine in they leaked a little so I took 'em out and put in new ones with a smear of blue gasket sealer around the edge. I pounded the snot out of 'em using 2 hammers: one against the plug, one to pound with. No more leaks! Quote
Guest Nile Limbaugh Posted January 30, 2007 Report Posted January 30, 2007 I forgot to mention that they should still have the curve after installation. If they're flat, they're either too small or you killed them. (I don't know how that would happen, but I guess it's possible.) Quote
