Two easy questions:

I had been having trouble with my gas tank. I took it off and it appeared clean inside. Put it back and there was still a blockage. I blew air into the tank but the blockage came back.

Today I went to a radiator shop and asked him about boiling it out. He said he would have to cut a hole in the tank to get to the filter. He's going to call me back with a price. Is there no other way?

On e-bay I see new tanks for $250. Has anyone here ever got one? I've heard they take "slight modifications" which always scares me. That has the ring of "some assembly required."

If it's going to cost over $200 to fix the old tank might as well get a new one.

in advance thank you.

I just got back from the radiator shop. They wanted $250 to cut the tank open and take the filter out.

I just called Tanks, Inc and they want $215 for a new one. It doesn't look exactly right - I was wondering if anyone has tried one yet. Does it just bolt on with the old straps? Does it require any modification? It's going in a 2 door Sedan.

I guess I'll try to blow the filter off - I've got nothing to lose now. I guess I could just strike a match to get a better look inside. :D

I had the problem of the clogged in the tank filter- I put full pressure from my compressor 120 lbs it blew it off. left it alone and then put an in line filter under drivers side rear door of 4 door. been working fine ever since

I will keep you posted. If it works it will save me $215.

Does the filter just float around inside the tank? Should I try to remove the piece that covers the filter?

Thank you for your input - this has been a mystery to me. In all my years of playing with cars I've never run across this type of dilemma.

Another reason this forum is the best.

I have a poly tank from "Tanks" in my '38. A little different shape than original, but no problem to fit it. It came with new straps, but I used my old ones.

It has a roll-over valve included, and is set up for a modern 6 bolt style fuel gauge sender.
