plywoody47 Posted January 27, 2007 Report Posted January 27, 2007 Assume final assembly owner.....got a price from a machine shop today that was out of this world, even in LA. Anyone with recent experience in So Cal? Can't it be done under $3,500? Quote
Normspeed Posted January 27, 2007 Report Posted January 27, 2007 I'm in L.A. County, the shop that did mine came in at less than that. Some good, some not so good work. Runs good though. Rebuild, line-hone, shave block and head, regrind cam, machine flywheel, balance, assemble to long block for around $2200 parts & labor. Both the shop and I had to do some remedial work after install. Not sure I could recommend them. Their specialty is more flathead fords and old hemis. Next one, I'll assemble myself. Quote
Guest Nile Limbaugh Posted January 27, 2007 Report Posted January 27, 2007 It cost me a bit over 600 for the following: rebore, turn crank main and rod throws, grind valves, install exhaust valve guides and cam bearings, check rod straightness and a few misc. items. Parts ran me about another 600. I did all the labor. You could probably add about 20% for the difference between N. Georgia and LA for labor. Quote
bob westphal Posted January 27, 2007 Report Posted January 27, 2007 I had the same procedures done that Nile did at my local machine shop with a cost about the same. Added another 'C' note for ballancing. I did the assembly myself. Add parts from Kanters to this at $650 for the basic overhaul kit. There are a number of your parts that can be reworked such as valves & lifters. I bought a new oil pump from NAPA for $75. Quote
