adam_knox Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 An article regarding "lower priced" Classics ($25k or less). Last paragraph: "At $10,000 or less, Mr. Mecum got creative and recommended something completely different. “Old cars in this price range weren’t popular when they were new, so their value isn’t high today. This makes them harder to sell later, but they’re still enjoyable. I’d look at 1948-54 Plymouth sedans.” Full article:http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/24/automobiles/collectibles/24collectible.html?ref=collectibles&pagewanted=all Quote
randroid Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 Adam, When I got my '48 P-15 it was because I always wanted to put a relic back on the road. That it was a Plymouth was irrelevant at the time but it eventually led me to this 'marching band' and I've been glad of it since. If I may ask, where are you and what do you drive? -Randy Quote
JerseyHarold Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 I have my Plymouths because of sentimental reasons. Getting media attention for them is nice, but the downside is parts prices may rise due to the publicity. Quote
adam_knox Posted July 1, 2009 Author Report Posted July 1, 2009 Hey Randy, I live in good 'ol Wisconsin. Drive a '49 Chrysler Windsor (2nd series) convertible. Used to own a '49 Plymouth (2nd series) 4-door Deluxe. Finding the right car for me was like figuring out who to ask to a Homecoming dance. Knew I never had a chance with the most popular gal, so I figured out who I liked and and had somewhat of a chance with! So I flipped though a huge coffee table book with all the cars made up to the present. I'd look at car, read about it, and then (most importantly) look at the price to own. As soon as I saw a pic it was love at first site with the '49 Mopar models. Plenty of head room, 1st redesign since WWII, reliable, and to top it off, I could afford it! Few years later plunked down my classic car savings and found my "keeper.":D Quote

I found my 48 sitting on a driveway in Fairfax Virginia with a 4-sale sign on it and I thought wouldn’t it be great to bring this old rust bucket back to life. I wasn’t looking for a car and wasn’t in the car hobby I guess we just stumbled across each other and it went on from there. Hope to be on the road soon knowing that I probably saved this old relic from the crusher. That’s good enough for me. I don’t care what others think of my old Plymouth or what it might sell for. I’m just happy to have her. Chet… Quote
