38plymouth Posted June 15, 2009 Report Posted June 15, 2009 I currently have #55 bulbs inside of my headlights that are used for parking lights. They are rated at 7 volts, .41 amps. I am looking for something brighter and amber so I can convert them to turn signals. I found a #44Y bulb that is amber and it's 6.3 volts and .25 amps. I'm thinking the 55 would be brighter than the 44Y because the amps are higher, is that correct? Quote
wldavis3 Posted June 16, 2009 Report Posted June 16, 2009 If you are going to convert to front turn signals and still want your parking lights to work, you will have to purchase new sockets and dual filament bulbs. I forget the number right off -- something like 1154. I added a signal light package to my car, and had to swap out the single filament front parking lamp sockets and lamps for dual filament. Since these dual filament sockets are probably larger than what you have now, there may be some modification needed. Maybe you would be better off using small motorcycle lights for front signal lights, mounted under your headlights, behind your grille, below the bumper, etc. Also, if you can't find an amber bulb in the size you need, go to a hobby-type shop and purchase some paint used for making "stained glass" projects. That paint lets light shine through it. Good luck with it. Quote
