What is this?

This is not a quiz thread but it could certainly turn into one, after my question is answered.

The passenger side of my truck has this thing mounted. It has a piece towards the top that appears to be some sort of locking arrangement.

Is suspect it is for mounting a spare gas tank or fire extinguisher but don't know for sure:

judging from the size I would also have to guess it's for a fire extinguisher.

Do you know any history on the truck. Who,what when,where. Maybe there's a clue there.

Looks to be a mounting for old time road flares. Mike

It lived on a farm most its life so that could very well be.

I have to agree that it was a bracket to hold a container for old time road flares, once a requirement in some states. Just

saw the same thing on a B1 FA 152" just outside of Moscow, ID a week ago with the exact same bracket and locking mechinism

at the top of the bracket.

That's interesting. This truck also lived in Idaho until I got it last week.

Wonder if I could find one of those vintage flare boxes someplace..

Next time I am out near the B1 FA 152 I will take a pic so you know what to look for. The one on this truck is really rusty but you will at least be able see its scale.
