woodscavenger Posted April 27, 2009 Report Posted April 27, 2009 I am having some problems with my door latches. I have searched but can't find a good diagram of the system. Does anyone have one? How about pics of the things? On my drivers side the latch does not seem to have a good return. Is there spring that needs replaced? Is it simple? Quote
MMcKinney Posted April 27, 2009 Report Posted April 27, 2009 Check out the "1948 - 53 B series Dodge Truck Parts List" in the knowledge section of this web site. Go to "23 Body" and then to page 23-12 after you do the 10 meg down load. Its not much but its all I have ever found. I have not started working on my doors yet, but I see I will probably have the same troubles you are having when I get there. The doors are next after I get the steering column and the pedals in. The doors are just scaring me to death. I would rather just eliminate the wing windows and save time looking for parts and just run the single glass. I hoping to some how convert over to the single window glass set up. It might be easier to fix it as it is with the wing window. I'll have to decied when I get there. Good luck. buds truck Posted April 27, 2009 Report Posted April 27, 2009 Mike, check out the new issue of rod and Custom, they have an article on how to make a set of Ford car doors into ventless and the process looks to be about the same for use on the Dodge truck doors. Bud Quote
grey beard Posted April 27, 2009 Report Posted April 27, 2009 Shane, Don't have any diagrams other than what the parts manuals offer, which is pretty meager, but I do have a pair of left and right side door latch assemblies that are extra parts. Of course, as you might expect, the driver's side is worn more than the passanger's. If you need them, they're yours for the shipping costs - likely $20 or 25, given their length with the linkage, etc. If you need these, just e-mail me directlym, off-forum with your snail address. MBF Posted April 27, 2009 Report Posted April 27, 2009 If the linkage is free (plunger) there is likely a wrapped return spring that is broken. I have seen these as swap meets. They look similar to the choke heater spring, but much higher tension. Mike Quote
