adam_knox Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 I was flipping through a car magazine and they had an article on how to mold tail light lenses. I found this link online that gives step by steps. http://www.alumilite.com/HowTos/TailLightMoldingEquipment.cfm Has anyone had any luck with this process, or know of another method? Do we know how much this costs? The reason I ask is tail light lenses for a 49 Chry seem to be hard to come by and of course eBay prices for them are outrageous in my opinion. Is this something that is akin to using playdough, or more like the skill and investment of pottery? Just thinking about how to make next winter a bit more productive... Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 I've never done it, but if you only need a couple of lenses it's probably cheaper to buy those expensive ones off ebay. I have priced the materials needed several years ago and they are expensive to buy, unless you plan on making lenses for resale. Check your Private Messages. Quote
Olddaddy Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 I am actually in the process of making molds right now for a variety of 49-50 Plymouth lenses. If I am successful I will very likely expand into earlier and later models. My wagon has two lenses that are unique to the Suburban. I expect to have some made in the next few weeks. Anyone interested, send me a pm. Quote
bkahler Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 There is a guy that lives across the lake from us that makes various lenses. He learned to make the molds and his little business took off from there. He sells them at various swap meets that he goes to. Brad Quote
