52B3B108 Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 Did any of you know these were made in Mexico? I don't know why they can't be offered in the US. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 If the trucks can't be sold here, it probably means they won't meet the emission requirements for the US. That's not a problem in Mexico. If they do meet emission requirements, you could probably order one. After all, when I bought my new 87 Reliant I got a good shock. Opened the trunk for something one day and noticed a little sticker inside. Said "Assembled in Mexico", but I bought it from the dealer in Wisconsin. So if you can buy the cars assembled in Mexico, you should be able to buy the trucks. Quote
52B3B108 Posted January 11, 2007 Author Report Posted January 11, 2007 Some people on the forum I stole the pictures from said they've seen them come in to southern Texas, etc. I just can't understand why Daimler won't try to compete with the other companies. Besides that, they're sharp looking trucks. Quote
IanT_Qld Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 Now one of those grills should fit a pilot house with less modification. (it is easier to shorten than extend) Quote
Guest Nile Limbaugh Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 I believe that VW still makes the old-style beetles either in Mexico or somewhere in South America, but I'm sure they wouldn't pass emission regs, either. Quote
Brad Lustig Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 VW just quit making the old beetle there a few years ago. I was in Mexico about a year ago on vacation. Really surreal to see "brand new" old beetles everywhere. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VW_Beetle Quote
MBF Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 If you look closely you can see the ancestry back to the pilot house era. Notice the fenderlines continuing through the door panel, and the shape of the hood. The more things change, the more they stay the same. Mike Quote
