P15Mike Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 Thx Dave for the info ...Mine has the knockout plug still present ...wasnt sure if they had planned on putting one there when they designed them or were they an option and mine just wasnt ordered with one . My 48 parts car had one and i just removed it a few days ago . As Bob stated earlier it goes in from the front with a sleave screws onto the unit from the backside of the chrome housing . The wire was routed to the power side of the ign switch . Mike Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted March 1, 2009 Report Posted March 1, 2009 Mike......if that's a P15 lighter that matches the other knobs....be sure to hang on to it real good. They go for pretty hefty money on the good ol ebay. Quote
55 Fargo Posted March 1, 2009 Report Posted March 1, 2009 If you check you GPS it may have some infor. The lighter connection for my garmin says input 10-30 VDC max 1A output 4.9-5.25 VDC/1A So the output to the charger seems to be happy with close to 6v but the input wants closer to 12v I do not have enough electronic knowledge to know why but it seems to want more then 6v from the lighter outlet The premise is the GPS unit will be powered from either a 12 or 24 volt system, as is the common. 12 volt for passenger verhicles, and possibly 24 volts for Highway Trucks, Buses Etc Looks the unit requires the lower voltage to operate, but will charge and taek in a power source of a higher voltage. Wonder what would happen with a 6 to 7.5 volt input supply, and + grnd to boot............Just a thought Quote
