aero3113 Posted January 13, 2009 Report Posted January 13, 2009 Just had an Idea, I see that sometimes people on this site wonder where someone is if they do not hear from them in a while(get worried or curious). Maybe the web-master can set up some way members can leave away messages if they know they are not going to be on for a while. Shouldn't be to hard to do. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted January 13, 2009 Report Posted January 13, 2009 Even if something like that was available on the forum, I for one would never use it. I would never make a post giving dates that I will be away on the internet. Only people I tell when going somewhere is my family members and our neighbor. We don't even stop the newspaper delivery. We just tell our neighbor to take it and throw it away. We put a hold on our mail at the post office at the same time and pick it up at the post office when we return. That's really the only people who need to know when we are away. You can however tell when most people on on the forum. Just look at the little circle next to their name. If they are online, a green light will be on unless they have that function disabled like I do in their profile. Quote

Rustbucket and another forum member cut a deal on a disc brake kit. The good standing forum member sent the kit but rustbucket never sent the funds. The good forum member tracked the package and it did arrive on rustbuckets doorstep. Now the good standing forum member is out the kit and the cost of freight to ship it and rustbucket will not respond to any e-mails nor will he answer the phone when Bill Willard calls him. Quote
aero3113 Posted January 13, 2009 Author Report Posted January 13, 2009 You don't have to put dates down when you are away or even say you are on vacation. They use it on AIM instant messenger and works great. Here are some examples you can do. I'm away from my computer out drinking beer out with the wife in the garage busting knuckles The list can go on and on, I always have an away message up on AIM, doesn't mean that I am out of the house or away from home. How do you guys know that Rustbucket is not on this forum under a different name? I see that there is alot of new members. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted January 13, 2009 Report Posted January 13, 2009 It sounds as if Mr Rustbucket needs to either return the merchandise or pay for it. Quote

How do you guys know that Rustbucket is not on this forum under a different name? I see that there is alot of new members. I don't use instant messaging (that's why I have a phone) . As for here on the forum, does it really matter where I'm at when not on the computer, and what I'm doing? When I do come back to the computer, I look and answer any questions or mail that I may have received when off. Years ago before people had a cell phone glued to their ear all the time, I had a car phone in the car even then. Had that before I started my own business in 1990. When my old boss complained that the phone was always off when he called, I simply said. I call in twice a day when I'm not busy with a customer or driving, so it doesn't need to be on unless I'm calling some customer, you can get me then. Never did leave it on all the time. Today, I still have a cell phone. But again, it's only on when I'm calling someone and there is no voice mail or text messaging set up for it. Anyone who wants to talk to me can call the office and leave a message or the home number and leave a message. Then I'll call them back when I get home or in the office. People don't need to know where everyone is, or what they are doing every minute of the day. Takes too much time to tell everyone I'm off the computer because I'm going to go sit on the toilet for example. Do they really want to know that much, or even care? Quote
