Don Coatney Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 If the numbers on the left side of your engine look like the ones pictured below you most likely have a Plymouth P-15 engine. Quote

Usually there is a casting date on the engine as well which might give you an idea how old the engine is. This is located on the left side down by the distributor. Usually takes a good light to see it. Looks like this motor would be a 218 as well. Quote
unkahay2 Posted September 25, 2008 Author Report Posted September 25, 2008 I found a d24-608920 on the left side just below the top of the motor Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted September 26, 2008 Report Posted September 26, 2008 If it's a D24, it's a 46 - early (March) 49 Dodge, at least the engine is. Post a picture of the car and we can then tell you if the D24 engine matches the body style. Quote

The farmer was old and thought it was a 47 or 49 Any help will be greatly Thanks unkahay2 The serial number, 31210868, is for a first series 1949 Dodge D24 built at Hamtramck, MI. 1949 numbers ran from 31201087 to 31242628 at Hamtramck and 45041546 to 45045426 at SanLeandro. Production of the 1st series 1949 models began on 1st December 1948 and ended first week of February 1949. Your car was obviously built early in December, 1948. Chrysler of Canada did not have a 1st series 1949 and ended 1948 production at the end of December, 1948. The plant sat idle until 1949 production began in late February, 1949.
