I got the bed installed in my truck. I used 1 x 10 oak with metal strips. Oak boards were varnished 4 coats on top side and edges and 3 coats on the bottom and the metal strips were varnished with Tremclad clear 4 coats. I did not follow the traditional method and used a sub frame instead, Sub-frame consists of 1 x 6 cedar. I used a sub-frame because the metal strips along side of box were damaged. I installed the cedar where the bed would go traditionally and then installed the oak bed on top. I fastened the bed using 1.5" SS carriage bolts and in those places where the holes overlapped the cedar used 2.5" SS bolts. The outside boards were fastened to the cedar, from the bottom using 1.25" SS screws so they are blind from the top. I am pleased with the result and it went in very quickly. Lyle

Bud Thanks for the comments. I was pleased with the way the bed went in and the way it looks. This was the last big step in the exterior of the truck. Still looking for better quality Fargo hubcaps but haven't found much yet. Lyle

The rails are steel. I was going to have them powdercoated black originally but when I placed them in the box I liked the look. As a result decided to clean them with extra fine steel and then applied multiple coats of clear

TremClad. Thanks for the compliment, I am pleased with the result.
