ewheeler Posted September 14, 2008 Report Posted September 14, 2008 Hi, It turns out the engine we bought for our rat rod (218 out of a 53 Dodge) has some serious problems so I have found another engine. The owner says it is a 230 out of a 50 Plymouth, but I was hoping someone could give me some information from the number on the block which is D34-256970. Thanks in advance. Shel Quote
No Bux Rod Posted September 14, 2008 Report Posted September 14, 2008 Shel, According to T137.com your motor is out of a 1950 Dodge Custom. 230 Cu In, that's the short block. N B R Quote
ewheeler Posted September 14, 2008 Author Report Posted September 14, 2008 The other engine we have is supposed to be a 218 Canadian long block (engine number T30720744C) so are these completly different engines? What about engine mounts and transmissions, will the 230 bolt in the same as the 218 did? Quote

What about engine mounts and transmissions, will the 230 bolt in the same as the 218 did? measure the overall size of the supposedly long block. if it is 25 in. long, then it is a long block and you will have to massage it to fit in the car (move some stuff around as it is 2 inches longer than the short block..) The 218 and the 230 shortblocks should be 23 inches long. Quote
ewheeler Posted September 14, 2008 Author Report Posted September 14, 2008 I guess that would mean that the front engine mounts would be 2" off?. I would imagine that the intake and exhaust manifolds would be different as well? http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f362/ewheelin/Trackratz%2036%20Dodge/IMG_1712.jpg Quote
