David Maxwell Posted December 21, 2006 Report Posted December 21, 2006 Got an email today that appeared as if it was from Paypal. We've all probably seen one of these, but this time the scammers used a clever twist. The email looks as if it is an instant payment notification. It told me that my payment to some character in the amount of $499 for a 60GB ipod had been sent. Below the payment notice, it has a typical "If you feel this payment was in error..., click this link". Of course they are hoping the panic attack will set in and that you'll rush to the link to stop the unauthorized payment. That's where they nab all your account info and then really strip your account clean. If you get any emails like this, DO NOT click any links in the email. Using your own URL library or directly entering the URL in your address line, go directly to Paypal or whoever the message refers to and see if the reported activity actually took place. Just a heads up. Have a scam free holiday! David Quote
