BobT-47P15 Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 In a town about 20 miles from Joplin. No one around. Has some 50s Chevies, a 40s Chevy pickup, some later model car under a cover and a batch of probably Chevy parts. Don't know what else. Saw 3 Fulton visors lying on one car when looking in the window. When the weather warms up and I have time I will go back and inquire about the place. I suspect the owner knows what he has. You can see that new windows have been installed all around the building. Back side of the building. The old Chevy,,,,may be a 1942 model????? Quote
Lee Exline Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 City hall should be able to get you the name and number of the owner. Have you ever tracked down the vintage dealer directories for MO? I have dealer directories for the state of Iowa from 1955-80 So I can find every licensed dealership location. Most are original copies but some are photocopies from the state automotive dealer assn. sometimes they will not give this informtion to non-members so you have to get your freindly dealer to make a call to them authorizing you to get it on thier behalf. The books have helped me find lots of dealerships. and you should have a copy of this in your glove box when you travel Desoto dealership list for MO Yes it is a Desoto dealership listing but all Desoto dealers also sold Plymouth! 55 Fargo Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 Hey Bob, what a cool old building, looks like the walls are all made from field stones, those fulton visors interest me, as mine was severely damaged when I got it. What happened to your snow, when we get snow this time of year, it never melts it stays till the end of March, but I can't get over how much your landscape there looks like here in Southern Manitoba.................Fred Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted December 20, 2006 Author Report Posted December 20, 2006 Fred, our snow stayed on the ground for at least two to three weeks....that's longer than usual around here. That building is native stone from the area, far as I know. There are lots like it around this part of the state. I would suppose it had been either an auto garage or body shop in years past. I did not really pay any attention to that place when I was in the town 30 years ago. Have driven by it probably 50 times over the years, but just decided yesterday to stop and look. There is an auto dealership about a block away.....those sort of guys often know about things automotive in their neighborhood. Will check with them first. Quote
PatS.... Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 There are some nice old buildings available in small towns not far from the big cities. This old community hall built in 1945 is available with a triple lot, a hardwood dance hall and concrete drive-in main floor. All for $65,000 45 minutes east of the city. Do you know how many old cars would fit in there and have a dance floor of room left over? There are also a few good sized churches at very reasonable prices. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted December 20, 2006 Author Report Posted December 20, 2006 Pat, it sure would be fun to own some dandy old building and create your own old car museum in the basement. We can always dream. Quote
Guest Nile Limbaugh Posted December 21, 2006 Report Posted December 21, 2006 Years ago I bought a 48 Chrysler business cpe in southern Indiana from a guy who had a 3 story building in the downtown area. The place was on a hillside so the bottom floor was entered from the alley, the first floor from the street. Building was, maybe, 40 feet wide by 80 or so long. The first floor was filled with parts cars, the second with cars under restoration and the third with parts. He was a Kaiser nut who was selling off anything that wasn't. I had my choice of a 46 Hudson pickup or the Chrysler; $125 each. (I said it was a while ago!!) On the restoration floor he had a Darrin roadster, a 51 Frazier convert and a 47 or 48 traveler. Now that was my idea of a hobby shop! Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted December 21, 2006 Report Posted December 21, 2006 O man, A darrin roadster, that guy is very lucky. I know there are so many more cars out there in old buildings and basements. It seems like every week some one is finding a treasure. Has anyone on the forum been to the old car museum in ocean city? I hear it's great, my street rod buddies drive by it on there way to the big cruz in in te summer. great find:) Quote
