DanOlson Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 When I swap in the 9 inch on my 53 B-4-C I would like to do something with the rear springs. Let's face it, the only load I'll be carrying in that box would be a few grand kids so I don't need the 3/4 ton springs and I'd like a softer ride. I inquired to Eaton Springs and explained my situation. They came back saying they could do a 'Street Rod' version of their 1/2 ton springs for a mere $598 plus $45 shipping. I haven't purchased springs in a long time but does that seem a little excessive? Dan Olson Quote
Guest Dave Claussen Posted August 13, 2008 Report Posted August 13, 2008 You can loose the "helper stack" and take a couple of the smallest leafs out and get a little softer ride but if you're going to go with a whole new spring setup then that price is probably about what you'd pay from just about any supplier. I have a B3C and I'm going with first suggestion. The other alternative would be an airbag system but that's even bigger bucks. Dave Quote
MBF Posted August 13, 2008 Report Posted August 13, 2008 Why not swap in a pair of 1/2 ton rear springs. If that doesn't do the trick I would think a local spring shop would be able to rework your springs (even if you removed a couple of the shorter leaves) and re-arch them to give you an original ride height. I think Albany Spring (Albany, NY) has a website that shows the specs for all springs that they manufacture. I had them make up a new main leaf for a Ford F-5 a few years ago and they were cheaper than a junk yard! Mike Quote
DanOlson Posted August 13, 2008 Author Report Posted August 13, 2008 Sometimes the solution is so obvious. I certainly don't lose anything by removing a leaf or two to see if that does the trick. Thanks. Dan Quote
