bob westphal Posted December 19, 2006 Report Posted December 19, 2006 These things have been around for a long time. This idea actually was used by the US military and civilians during WWII to help increase fuel milage. It helps atomize the fuel/air mixture for faster and more efficient burning They actually do help to some extent. I have used a fine meshed screen setup under the carb to do the same thing in the 70's when gas prices jumped up from 35 cents per gallon. I got about 1 1/2 to 2 mpg increase on my Vega. Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 Bob you owned a vega! So did I, it was my first car. The wife and I (girl friend then) had got summer jobs and put 75.00 dollars together and got a 1972. School bus yellow with the cogsworth mags and white letters on the wheels, a hatch back. We would go to haines point saturday mornings and wax it. Then go to Anacostia park at night to watch the big ships and listen to the quiet storm on the radio, this is real D.C. stuff. Blew the motor comming home from a Funkadelic concert, man at the ESSO station gave us 200.00 dollars for the body my first profit from a car sale. Towards the end it smoked like a cheap cigar:eek: Quote
D25_Steve Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 Reminds me of this, which I keep getting as a hit for my saved search for 48 Dodge (48% improvement or something is what triggers it). Quote
bob westphal Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 Rod, I bought mine new in late '73 and drove it for 55K. That's when it started to smoke. I put an AFB 500 cfm Carter on it to get some power. I was glad to trade it in on a new '76 Ponctiac Lemans coupe. Quote
Ed Griffin Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 Thats a huge differance between the Vega and the Lemans Bob. I also had a 76 Lemans coupe but it was abt 10 years old then. Payed 600 bucks for it and drove it about a year then traded it for a 81 Bronco 4x4. The Lemans was a very comfortable ride and would haul a.. down the hwy. Reminded me of a large Firebird on the inside. Dont think I've ever owned another a car that had doors as long as it had. Quote
David Maxwell Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 ...fuel into snake oil or something? LOL! Quote
