Was up the garage last night with a buddy working on relining the E-brake for my new overdrive and I decided to run the car up to temp for a few minutes. I had the hood open and my buddy was watching the engine. I hit the starter and he yelled, hey stop you've got sparks flying under here. So we switched positions and I witnessed what it was he was referring to. As he hit the starter button, a pretty big arc of juice jumped from the butt side of the starter case over the engine block, whereafter small whiffs of smoke followed from the same location. I've never had this or any other starter opened, but assume that this may be worn brushes? Is this an easy replacement? If I pull the starter is there anything else I should service on the starter or motor?
