Good news from the machine shop - the 230 cid motor that I pulled from the '56 Suburban passes muster for the block, rods, crank, cam, valves, valve seats, springs and head. Unfortunately, there was enough vertical scoring on the pistons that they needed to be bored over 0.040, which means I need to buy new pistons. I did some research between our favorite vendors based on price, but then I wondered if there were any significant quality difference between them on pistons and rings. I tend to think that "Made in the USA" get's you a superior part. NOS is, of course, cast iron- new are typically aluminum alloys. Not sure where each vendor sources their parts but I'm assuming that Roberts and Bernbaum are using NOS, while Egge makes their own in the US, or used to. Here's what I found on price for pistons+rings: Summit Racing New $325 Aluminum Roberts Motor Parts NOS? $675 Cast Iron Kanter New $717 ? Andy Bernbaum Auto Parts NOS? $720 Cast Iron Vintage Power Wagons New $774 Cast Iron Egge New $932 Aluminum Small piston in photo is Summit Racing's offering, which looks different from the others.

Tires/White wall Rings - yes I have searched and read a lot

Okay so after reading a ton on here and having just changed what almost appeared to be the original shocks on my car (one leaked all the oil out as soon as I laid it on the ground). I looked the WWW Bias tires over and have no idea when they were made other than prior to 2000 with the date codes were added in simple terms. I already drove them almost 2 hours and they feel great but don't want to trust them for any real long drives or for that matter I like being safe and don't want to have to try and change a tire on the side of the road in Cincinnati if I can help it. The backup on the interstate alone could take days to clear up as everyone would stop and look or take pictures. So I am thinking of getting some Radial tires (sorry to the purists, but I want to drive it not show it since I am unemployed I might as well enjoy some things in life while searching for a job. Anyways, I have read on here about the White Wall Rings that go under the hubcaps. I currently have 6.00x16 tires I am thinking P215/75-R16 I thought about LT215/85-R16 but they might be too tall. I do like the look of the white walls, so where in the world can I get a set of the White Wall Rings? So as to not get into trouble if you have a set PM me, but if you know where they can be purchased online please let me know, my google search has only yielded a set on ebay for $175 Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
