  1. thanks for the tips guys i will try them out next time go go over to the car.
  2. can anyone tell me how to take the drive shaft out of a dodge d19 .have stripped it down removed the back plate and brake shoes . is there anything else to remove as i can't seem to get the shaft out the bearing is not moving forward ,i have tried using the brake drum as a slid hammer against the nut so much so the whole car is moving on the axle stands. Can anyone tell me if there is something holding it in that i have missed as don't want to break anything, and if what i am doing is the right way, we don't have the tool to remove the shaft that is in the manual, so i thought this would work, but not getting anywhere with it we need to replace the oil seal, as oil is coming pass and getting in to the drums any tips on this would be a great help, as sure someone has come up a against this before. cheers guys
  3. Has anyone got photo's of a dodge d19 engine showing the linkages on the carb, auto choke unit on the manifold on the manifold side and the linkages on the other side of the engine block to the gas pedal ,also showing how the oil filter is fitted and oil lines . i took photo's of this but my phone has dumped them along with all my other shots of the strip down, plus some part were missing or not on the car when we got it .just need some ref/shots to be sure things are going back as they should only the manual i have is more written than photo's. we are putting it back as was . any help would go a long way to helping speed up the work. as have spent ages trying to work out how the link from the auto choke links to the carb as the alignment seems all wrong as if there is something missing from the linkage as their is to much of an angle on the link bar, i think i have the other side right now but any photos would be great so i can print them off and use cheers guys .
  4. i have a heavy duty puller that bolts to the studs with 3 arms which i got off e bay that what i've been using .like you and others have said they need time to free them up after year of use ,thanks for your pointers on the problem was worrying i had miss something which is why it was not moving now it seems it just needs some careful work and time to move it cheer's.
  5. so it looks like i am doing the right thing, to get the rear hubs off just need to work on them due to rust build up,and not to worry about how much pressure the puller puts on the hub ,there was no way i was going to heat it up due to the damage it could do . next time i will try using a long bar on the puller i have sprayed some penetrating oil on the sleeve end when i left it ,plus i will try treading the nut on to stop it hitting the ground when it does come free . i was a not to keen on hitting the puller nut end in case of damaging the bearings and seals inside of the hub, thanks to everyone for there tips. can anyone I.D this gearbox i think it maybe a M5 OR M6, which came with the car not sure which type it is but its not the one the car was built with there is a servo/vacum type thing on one side with what looks like electrical connectors of some type not sure if this will 1, work on this car 2, how to link it up electrical, as all the wiring was cut and gearbox was in the boot(truck)anyone as a wiring dirgram for it as in were it gets or takes its power from and were it fits into the wiring loom. I have a prop sharft that came with the car and when layed out under the car they look like they fit the space between bell house and the rear axle.
  6. can anyone tell me how to get the rear hubs off a 1941 Dodge D19, I have the workshop manual but ,i have followed what i tells me to do ,we are using a un/puller bolted to the hub but we can't get the hubs to move forward on the sharft (and yes i have removed the main nut on the end of the sharft) the hubs turn freely so the brake shoes are not holding the hub, there is no way we should be putting as much pressure on the puller as we are, and no movement from the hub ,am i missing something here to help get the hub off ,there is a slot with a pin in it but can't see how to remove it , and do not want to damage anything as most replacement parts have to come from the U.S.A . . SOMEONE MUST KNOW A WAY ..i need to put new brake shoes and cylinder rubbers in and this is the only way to do the job .
