  1. went and looked at another Cranbrook today and figured what the heck lets load it on the trailer. drove it almost a block to get from where it was to my truck and trailer. all new brakes and lines but they didn't work, I suspect no fluid but haven't looked yet. purrs like a kitten and didnt smoke a lick. body not as good of shape as my other Cranbrook but there are lots of parts and I can see where things belong on the other one that I had no idea where they went. I broke one of my rules on the first car and that is don't buy an incomplete/torn apart car. plan is to put both on road and make twins.
  2. I can make my own linkage, but I never thought of the ice up. got a few tractors that will do that. got my eye on another 53 im going to go look at.
  3. I've been working on the 53 Cranbrook I bought that was supposed to be a running car(it wasn't) I pulled the carb apart last night and it is all corroded up and chalky. while cleaning it up it dawned on me that I have a really cool old updraft Carter that came from my 49 Dodge COE. I wonder if I can make a curved tube with flanges to bolt onto the existing manifold and use the updraft instead of the downdraft carb. it should have enough vacuum to pull the fuel up and over and I think it would look cool as hell with an updraft hanging off the side of the motor. any thoughts or ideas, or something that I may have overlooked?
  4. new question, what to expect when pulling the motor from the car? this car has the HY-Drive transmission. starting out with a motor in the car that was rebuilt 15 years ago and never ran. I found a stuck piston and several stuck valves. got everything loosened up except one valve which I think is bent. pulled the intake/exhaust manifold today and found all the intake runners filled with rust and junk. so im pulling the motor and going to rebuild it. just never messed with this type of tranny.
  5. can anyone get me a few good photos of the rad support area? my Cranbrook has some parts missing and I need to se if I can find or fab something up. mostly the braces for the hood catch, the only thing that is there is the actual latch, im missing all the brackets that bolt elsewhere to support/stiffen the latch thanks, Brian
  6. hello guys, so this isn't my first foray into the world of dodge products(long sad story) but so far the furthest. I picked up what was to be a running, non driving 53 Cranbrook w/ Hy-drive to play with while I'm doing a resto on a 75 ford super camper special and also my Dad can take it to the local car cruises so he don't have to crawl in and out of my brother in laws Camaro. first problem I had was the engine wouldn't turn over so I pulled head. lightly stuck on #3 & #5 pistons and several valves stuck open. I got it all loose except #4 exhaust valve is still sticking. need to pull that valve and really go over it as it is really tight. then it is on to the brakes and new fuel system. any good tips and tricks for a guy that has spent most of his wrenching on old tractors and one lung hit and miss engines. here is a picture of my new toy last week, when I bought it.
