  1. A previous owner changed out the 3-speed column shift with a 4-speed on the floor. I am trying to figure out which transmission it is, so I can get a seal and gasket kit for it. It's a synchro 4-speed (3rd and 4th only). The number cast into the side of the case is C88221, and the date above that is 3-29-51. I've been looking at trans stuff on the Power Wagon site, and it looks a lot like the C88671. If that gasket and seal set would fit mine, life would be wonderful. Based on what I have read in the various topics, it looks like I also need to make a custom gasket to fit the front of the tranny, but I'm pretty sure the leak is from the rear seal. How it can leak from above the oil fill plug is beyond me, but... Thanks in advance. Oh, my truck is a 1949 B1B X truck, but heaven only knows what the tranny came out of. Hutch
  2. I looked on the rear axle where the ratio is supposed to be stamped, and did not find a number I expected. Mine is stamped 6 F. Does anyone have any idea what this means? I was expecting to find 3.73, 4.1, 4.3, or 4.78. My truck is a 1949 B1B X truck, which means it is a B1B with a B2B serial number, sort of a B1.5B or 1949-1/2 truck.
  3. My 49 B1B came with no key. I found a lock with key from another Mopar car of that vintage and changed it out. Although I did not need to do it, I removed all the window stuff and took out the door mechanism, which I found rather interesting. The passenger door can be locked from the inside, BUT, that part of the lock does NOT connect to the part operated by the key. The inside handle locks it horizontally, the key locks it vertically. I wish I had taken a picture while it was out.
  4. I just picked up a B-1-B that was not operated for six years, and had been titled as "salvage". It looks like one previous owner switched to 12V by swapping the engine for one from a 57 Plymouth. The steering column tells me that it used to have a 3-speed, but it now has a 4-speed. The manuals I have on the B1 and B2 don't get into much on the transmissions. The top of the case has C88481, and a very large "H". Does anyone know which transmission this is? The date casting is 4/5/51. I'm noping it is at least partially synchomesh. Also, is there a back-up light switch on this transmission? And what are the gear ratios? Thanks in advance.
