  1. Before I order any parts i think I should know for sure of this is the correct engine for this car. Can any one tell me if S8-2828 is the correct engine? Its the number stamped on the drivers-side upper front stamp pad. Thanks again...
  2. Well- I have some good news. I decided to go out and fight the cold this morning and pulled the distributor. What looked like a crack ended up being a big glob of mud that was flaking off the side of the body. From the vantage point I had it looked like a huge crack or break....but I still need to go thru the distributor and clean it up well because its been exposed to the elements for a few years and has rusted up a bit. So I dont think I'll need any "hard" parts. Thanks to all and next time I'll look a bit closer at things...

  5. The casting is broke and breaker point plate is bent. But that is what I was hoping to hear. Should be easy to find a replacement. I didnt know if there might have been a difference between 23 and 25", or between pre-war/postwar distributors.
  6. My distributor must have had something fall on it while in storage to the previous owners place. Does anyone know what the distributor interchange might be for it so I can start looking for one. Its a stock original engine in a 41 Desoto. Thanks for any help!
  7. I really like hearing stories like this. I talked to a guy just the other day that bought a 52 Desoto with all original parts even the upholstery. He bought the car, washed it, buffed out the original paint, vacuumed the interior, installed a new radiator, changed fluids and started driving it. Has given many rides to people who used to "have one just like it" and made their days. This spring he's going up to take the older gentleman that owned it for a ride again. Needless to say he is one proud owner......
  8. No I dont have any more photos of the butchered car, its tucked in the back of storage right now. I bought another top from a junkyard 46 to fix the top on this one. And it's gonna get a rear window from a 50 Hudson, as the person who started the chop intended. I think its gonna work out OK...... I do quite a bit of fabrication. I'm probably more of a fabricator than mechanic, but I'm a fast learner. I'm getting into metalshaping more and more as I buy and make more tools. So far everything I have done is with hand tools. Still learning metalshaping which is why these cars have kinda been pushed off until I get better at it. I have an off-topic '59 Ford Fairlane I'm getting together for a driver right now and helping a friend with his hot rod 34 Ford Pickup while im waiting for parts. About 1/2 way done with the frame on the 34....

  10. rb1949, Here is a photo that I think most poeple here will mostly be interested in. It's my 41 D-19 project. It needs a frame and floors (among other things) from sitting in the dirt like this. This picture is from around 10 yrs ago and is in a much nicer place waiting for resto.....

  16. I do have one question right away.....does the frames 46-48 Dodge, Desoto, and Chrysler cars interchange with the 41-42's?

  19. Hello all ----- Ive been registered here for a while but havent posted or introduced myself. I have a few 'ol project cars I havent started yet, but have been collecting parts for them for years. I am thinking about getting my '41 Desotos' engine running this summer. I bought this car because the engine was supposed to have been rebuilt, but the owner never started it. I have no other info about the engine. Sooooo, I may be on here asking for help, here and there. I dont understand and frankly a little afraid of the "semi-automatic trans. So much so that I'm actually thinking of finding manual transmissions for them. I guess I'll be asking for some interchange advice, too. I am really stuck on that styling year of 1941 for all the Mopar family. I also have 2 Dodge D-19 coupes. And a 29 Plymouth.....all are very large projects. I do plan on trying the best I can to stick with the early flathead sixes and all early parts. Except for one of the d-19 coupes which was already butchered before I got it, so that will get an early 241 hemi w/ 3x2 carb setup...... Anyway, looking forward to being part of the forum. Hopefully someday I can contribute. Dane
