It is all stock, 230 ci flatty, 3 speed trans, 4.89 rear end. I wanted to get to Tim's BBQ this past April but the stars did not line up. It is on the calendar for next year, God willing. Paint is all original color etc. We just scotch bright rubbed the surface and then used Hot Rod Flatz, flat clear to seal it up. It looks real convincing up close. Often folks ask is this the paint how you found it? It did brighten up the color a little. Pic below is how I found it. Other pic is after it was flat cleared.

Can A Flat Head Be A Daily Driver, 230Cu, Route Van

I did decide to let it be and drive it at its top speed with red flags and flashers to get to car shows. On a recent trip back from a show I experienced high winds and it felt like I was going to tip over. But the van weighs in at 4720 lbs empty. I donut think it will tip over any day soon. I did remove some of its leafs to get it lower to the ground and placed some airbags over the leafs to handle the loads. It did make it more of a pleasure to drive and have a lower stance. I can put it back to stock as I did not alter the suspension or the frame in any way. If I need to take it long distances I guess I can rent a truck and trailer to do so.- 198 replies

Had to look up what a master link looked like, I may need to go back to the ranch with my metal detector to see if I can find it. I may be using the last of the track for more bumpers. It may actually be off a D3, not sure.- 198 replies

My 15 year old son and I are now onto a 1939 ford 1/2 ton pickup. He wants to do something like this, see below. And he wants to go to Bonneville Salt Flats next year. I am searching for a 30's Dodge pickup myself.- 198 replies

Yes it is a track chain, not sure of model, found it on a ranch, buried and nice and crusty. Stick welded the joints and the original holes happen to line up with the bumper holes and so I bolted it on.- 198 replies

Thanks, It has also been fun to take it on the freeways. I went to Goodguys a few weeks ago and on the way back it was windy on 680 freeway. I was leaning for a while there in high winds. But it is satisfying to be able to say I drove it here! The flatty runs great too.- 198 replies

Overdrive update, spoke to the guys at Gear Venders, an overdrive would give me 20mph at the top end putting my top speed at 70 mph. Cost for this would be 3075.00 plus I would need to find a driveshaft welder to cut and modify my existing drive shaft. Anyone know of a good driveshaft company in the Napa Valley/ Bay area? Will have to save some pennies to get this bought and done. It would essentially give me a 6 speed but most likely I would just use the top end.- 198 replies

Thanks Jerry, I will call them and see what the gear vender would set me back. It would be nice to take it on the highway and thereby more car shows. Hey there Mike, I tried finding the episode you mentioned but with no luck. It is a neat series to watch and saw some other cool cars. The Oil Soup, thanks for the compliment, I was planning on some sort of fictitious logo on the side, Something like: Fossil Fuels Oil Company, "Put a little T-Rex in your tank" Have the letters done to look like dino bones and have a rendering of a T-Rex pumping gas into the Route Van. All in a retro style and then rubbed off a little to make it look old and faded. What do you think? Richard- 198 replies
