  1. Thanks, I think I will try those things first. Then dive into the WDT.

    Kaitlyn's 48

This is my daughter and her 48. She will be 15 this summer and we are working to get her truck ready for her to drive to school. She should have a year behind the wheel before we set her loose in it.
  3. 1948 b-1-b with a 50 engine Our truck temperature climbs way to high. I have read everything I can find and have decided that I need to pull the welsh plugs and blast the gunk out of the engine. I have put together a list of parts I think I need. Could you guys let me know if I have left anything out? I would like to get everything coming so that we can get to it. Parts from Andy Bernbaum WDT $39.50 Whelsh plugs $15 Napa has them but unsure of the size and quantity. 1 5/8" ? How many? Radiator Hose kit $25 Thermostat $$10 Thermostat gasket $1 Water Pump Gasket $1.99 NAPA Am I missing anything? We will also be changing the exhaust header gaskets and cleaning the motor up a bit. Already have the header gaskets Under 10 bucks from NAPA. Engine decal set $11.50 Engine Paint $21 a can. What color silver and what brand from NAPA? Got to be cheaper. Thanks for the input. Andy Here is Kaitlyn and her truck.
  4. GREAT, thanks guys. I was hoping to hear that I could clean the motor out with it still in the truck. I'm happy with how it runs so far. If I can keep the temp down we will be golden.
  5. The update. The "Ford" Carter carb that we rebuit still wouldn't idle. So... I took the correct B&B off the 49. We got the rebuild parts and rebuit the B&B. The motor idles nice and smooth. Friday, I was looking at the motor with a customer/mechanic and said "Want to hear it?" He said the timing was still way to slow. Turns out the oil filler tube was twisted towards the motor and the vacuum off the distributor was hitting it. We twisted the tube and now I had a lot more timing available. It made a huge difference. Now to put an actual light to it. The engine does have a pretty good exhaust leak. I stopped by Napa and got some new gaskets, just need to put them on. I drove it to my parents house on Friday. First time it has been out of my building since we got it. Kaitlyn was already there for dinner. I walked in and handed her the key. She said "Is that my key?" Then her wheels started turning. "IS MY TRUCK OUTSIDE?" Truck ran great, starts right up. We took several laps around the block with my mom and Kaitlyn's little sister. Temp stayed right at 190ish. Saturday night I left my car at the shop and drove the truck home. 8 miles at highway speed. I guess I was running fairly fast. No one was blowing by me. But, she was getting hot. By the time I got to the house the gauge was pushing 250. When I stopped she puked her guts out. I let her cool down, filled the radiator back up and we washed her for the first time, then ran to Sonic. I'm hoping it is a timing thing but am dreading that it may be the "crap in the bottom of the motor." Hopefully, It is something easy, waterpump, timing something. I really don't want to have to pull the motor. Today after lunch and a movie with the wife and girls, we stopped at the parts store and grabbed some polishing compound. I just did the drivers side hood. Man what a difference. We may actually be able to wake up this red paint. If it is not raining in the morning I think I will take the Judge to the store so we can work on the paint here at the house. A little car swappin'.
  6. Thanks, didn't know they had one. I'll call and order one. Hard copies are easier to study in the most important room in the house.
  7. Does anyone know if there is a getting place for the latches on the vent windows? Both are broken on our truck. I've looked at Roberts but his site drives me bananas. I go in looking for cool stuff. I know its there but there is nothing but a part number, no real description and no pictures. Like tonight I see that they have some sort of 12v replacement heater. No idea what I looks like but sounds like something I may need, It's just frustrating because I feel like they have most everything I need but I'm not sure. AAAARG! Anyway window vent latches whooo's got 'em?
  8. We'll taken... No oily rags left about. Sorry for the loss. I can't imagine. But at least it wasn't attached to the house. A little silver lining.
  9. I pulled the carb off Saturday night, cleaned it Sunday morning and Kaitlyn put it back together that afternoon. I got the kit from Mike's Carberator parts and he happened to have a video on our exact Carter VF carb. We watched the video and followed it to a T. That is what was on the 48. The 49 has a Carter B&B. We will probably eventually put it on as it is more correct. But the Vf was on the truck and that's what I had a rebuild kit for. We should get it on Sunday and see how it works.
  10. Wow, if I did it right, I saved that much today rebuilding my carb. But that is a big if. We shall see.
  11. Chris, they are American Classics 205/60r15. Coker shows them a $250 each.
  12. Ha! That's the first thing she did was look for an NRA sticker. I'm going to suggest the "Don't Tread On Me" sticker. Double meaning, one the real meaning, second to warn the BOYS.
  13. Truck is here. Ist step, rebuild the Carter carb that is on it and then rebuild the carb off the 49. I haven't looked at the 49 but I hope it is the correct Stromberg. The Carter is a VF of 1966 to mid 70's off a Ford truck. 2nd order seat belts.
  14. So has anyone put a lap belt in the center? What length did you go with? Our truck will have 2 and 3 folks in it often. I'm guessing the 74 inch standards, but they also offer 60".
  15. Thanks guys. That is what I was looking for. I did a bunch of searching but was thinking if it could be short and sweet like this it would help everybody. Truck didn't make it today, dang ice in Georgia. Truck driver said he should be here tommorow evening.
  16. So the 48 Pilot house is supposed to be here tomorrow and I was searching for some basic info on the flat 6. Looking for the consensus on the following questions. 1: What oil do most of you run? 2: What fuel? Octane level. Do you guys add a lead additive? 3: Stock sock or ball of string type filter? 4: Spark Plugs? 5: Is there a Pertronics? replacement for the points that is worth wild? Changed this in my Judge years ago and never looked back. Any other basic kind of info you can think of. Hopefully this thread will come up when the next guy searches for it. Thanks
  17. Transport company told my Thursday Morning sometime. Here's to hoping!
  18. Might be here tomorrow, but I am guessing Tuesday or Wednesday. The transport company was talking about picking it up Monday and delivering it Thursday or Friday. However, they had a drive who got it Friday about noon. So I expect it early this week. Like waiting for Christmas morning. I'll put up lots o pics.
  19. She's on her way to us. Dan it is a '42 Fulton, he said he paid $1500 bucks for it. We love the baseball cap look!
  20. Oh yeah, The gentleman we are getting the truck from said her name was "Dolly." Because she was old but still looked good. I thought that was great and Kaitlyn loved it and has already started calling it Dolly. He He!
  21. Hey guys my news grabbing headline had more to do with backing up to a 48 from the 49. I know this actually a huge leap forward. Kevin, this just means you will probably be seeing our instruments a lot sooner.
  22. He said the lowering was done simply by removing leafs, leaves, however you talk about leaf springs. We have a 3/4 ton so we have plenty to put back if we want. I'll let you know the tire size when it gets here.
  23. Yep, actually the first thing on the list.
  24. So last April my 13 year old daughter and I bought a 49 3/4 ton Pilot house. I have been slowly taking it apart and came to the realization that this thing is never going to be done by the time she turns 16. Today I just paid for and we are now waiting for a 48 Pickup to arrive from North Carolina. We will have a really good looking, running, and driving truck that we can work on small projects with. We "backed up a year" and are cheating but still achieving our goals. Cool truck to drive to school and great father daughter time. Now we just have to wait. It is everything we wanted, it's a Red 48, has a ford 9" rear with 3.55 gears, new rubber on all the glass, new wide white walls, new wiring,a baseball cap "Visor", and a brand new Cherry Bomb. She doesn't know that yet but will when she gets home. She wanted to put a Cherry Bomb on it. We still get to do the interior, put disk brakes up front, clean up the engine bay, put the wood bed back in. It has a metal bed now. Should be fun and best of... We get to drive it now. She will have a years worth of driving before she heads out on her own in it. So, we will be using what we need off the 49 and then the community will have a treasure trove of solid parts for their projects.
  25. Kevin, any idea as to how much credit he gives for your set?
