  1. Heard of a PCV update available on some motors. Is this for the large and small block six motors?
  2. Greybeard, I'll keep you updated as I get closer to actual tear down. I take it Terrell Machine is the parts vendor of choice? How much room is there to play with boring and larger pistons and do you have an idea of coast verses gain? Other than milling the head for higher compression are there any other beneficial upgrades?
  3. Tooling up to finally get started on an engine rebuild in future. Have three large 1.5-2 ton trucks. Plan on taking the largest output motor, which has a crack in the exterior of the block near a freeze out plug, and using the crank and rods in a lower out put, but good block. I'm sure it's been beaten to death on here but would appreciate any advise or tips to help during a Dodge overhaul to make it a happier engine when done (ie. smoother, stronger, more durable, higher output, etc.) The engine will end up in a 1948 COE so I believe I'm stuck with factory intake and up draft carb.
  4. have some good rust free doors off grain trucks, vent ($125 per) and no vent ($100 per) they have the common farmer dents and a extra screw hole from mirrors. which can be well worth it to not have to pay someone or spend many hours and dollars on a repair that may come back and haunt you in a few years. Shipping is a problem though. Had someone from PA call on them but ground ship by UPS was $170.00 per door. for shipping and the door cost a lot of repair can be done for those dollars. If your not in a hurry finding them local is the ticket.
  5. one of my big trucks had one good and one damaged fog light by a company by the name of "Unity" I believe and a while back I searched on line and found the company still makes accessory lights including old reproduction fog, driving, spot lights, etc. I'm sure they'd also have repro. switches. Mine mounts under dash and is a white turn switch which says "fog" and has a build in glass fuse holder into the rear body of switch.
  6. have a 48' COE dump that needs the floor pan cover which is removed to access the air filter from inside the cab. Also would be interested in doors, lower steps and r/h hood section if in better shape than mine.
  7. Jim, have five 1 1/2, 2 ton trucks and one has the 70 series heater just like yours. the other four have the more common 61 and 65 modles. if you still have questions or problems let me know i'd be happy to check these out for you.
  8. have five 1 1/2 plus ton trucks on my property and most have had the gas pedal hinge point fale and holes drilled for a door hinge, piano hinge, you name it. wonder if some are not factory and were added out of nessesity and lack of $s
  9. I live in NW Montana and there are some here but it would be a drive
  10. why not find a good looking counter weight to sit next to you. If thats not enough, cooler and fishing gear in right side of bed only. still not enough trane dog only to hang out on right side of bed. got a spare? mount it on the right instead of left. etc.......
  11. the fresh air system was a bolt on option according to the options booklet on the web site. as far a I can tell it could be add to any truck with or with out any offered heater at the time. I too am finding them somewhat rare.
  12. have a few dodge 48-53 1 1/2 plus ton trucks and building at least one nice keeper and maybe one to sell. have a 60, 61, and 65 series heaters. the 60 is basic. the 61 and 65 look similar except the 65 series has the defroster duct on the right side of the box instead of left and less or no directional air door on left as result. the 65 also says "truck master" in the middle area. is one heater better or more valuable then another?
  13. With help from Ken Foit found out there is a stamping on the top of the axel next to filler plug of ratio. Thanks again Ken
  14. Other than counting revs. is there a stamping or was there a tag showing gear ratio. I've five ton 1/2 plus trucks, three have 2 speeds and all are different GVWs. The axel end caps all have same bolt count and to the eye look the same.
  15. I have a 48 conventional 1 1/2 ton with what I believe is a factory dump grain/flat bed. It's about 12' long and I have seen the same bed in books. The outer frame was made out of or covered with a sheet metal thin metal that has a raised rib a top and bottom of rail and a slight cut out over rear wheels. It has no markings on it anywhere that I have found yet. My 48 COE has a 13' dump/grain bed on it thats is vintage and heavier built made by Giant Manufacturing Company with name plates on both back corners. Most third party beds I'm pretty sure had a name plate orig. in plain view for marketing purposes.

    COE

Found a 1948 COE 131 inch wheel base with third party Giant Manufacturing Company bed in fair condition. Five speed and two speed rear with dump. Needs complete restore but all there. Anyone tell me how desirable these trucks are compared to conventional 1plus ton trucks? How much harder are they to work on? Left lower step has been modified and both doors have rust at bottom. Did they offer different two speed gear ratios and if so is there a way to determine what it is? Can anyone tell me if there is a way to determine if a five speed is regular or over drive?
