Yep, I couldn't let this one get parted out! Some previous knucklehead owner cut the frame off at the firewall and cut all the floors out. I'm an optimist to no end, and I looked at it as an opportunity to build a pre-war channeled Mopar hot rod!
Thanks a ton for posting about your Coupe and it's rolling stock Greg, that is EXACTLY what I was looking for!
That picture posted above of my car is an older one, right after I pulled the Dakota body and popped the '40 Dodge Coupe body on it. The wheelbase was too long at 123.9". I specifically used a 1987 Dakota which still has the popular 5 x 4.5" bolt pattern.
Here are a couple of more recent ones. The frame was shortened 4.4 inches to match the 1940 Dodge's 119.5 wheelbase. In these pictures the body is sitting a little farther back than it should, but I've already fabricated front body mounts to locate the body on the frame. I had to knock the rear spring mounts off the frame because when the rear of the body comes down they would be in the way, and the springs will have to go under the frame.
I ask about rolling stock so I could get ideas for what everyone else is running stance wise. I may or may not go with bias plys, but I want the old timey look of tall skinny tires.
Does anyone know the P-metric equivalent to the stock tire on these cars?
The Dakota wheels and tires that are one it right now in the pictures are 215-75-15s.
I've done a little research, some of the Pilot House truck guys on here use 215-85-16s on the skinny OE 16" steelies which I think might look good on the rear, if there's room for them.
Not sure about the front, though. On a Google search in an old Jaguar forum I found those guys were having good luck running 215-70-16s on their skinny wires, but looking at Greg's ride I might try 205-70-16s.
This is still open for discussion, as long as your guys want to talk about Coupes and tire combos, not pickup trucks.
