  1. Ok I got you, idk the hole on the carb opened directly to the main intake ... thought you impled there was a second hole on the manifold. No I'm not there, the cars about an hour away at my parents, i can only get up there on the weekends and my dad isn't internet savvy enough to post here lol
  2. Grove city / slippery Rock area
  3. Should we rebuild the Carter? Also, Pa mentioned an adapter and adding a 2b carb of some kind. Idk.... Is there a less costly carb option should we decide to completely replace the whole thing? So you think the Stromberg is workable?
  4. It doesn't smoke, and plugs don't seem fouled
  5. My Pa is on the phone right now, he said the manifold does NOT have any other holes for vac. Just the main intake hole. There IS however a hole on the Stromberg that was covered with the gasket we made. He also verified the Carter has a vac hole as well. He said earlier today it started and idled for about 20 mins and when he took the carb off it was pretty hot... vapor lock? Also, spraying around the carb did cause an increase in rpm. Whether that's a bad gasket or bushings as mentioned above has yet to be determined. He has the Stromberg off now, and there was somehow water in it... idk how. We had drained the tank day one and replaced all the fuel lines. Will check the fuel bowl. Pics of carbs and intake base: https://imgur.com/a/45qdygm One of yinz from western pa and not doing anything this weekend....?
  6. Would this cause a problem on my engine? It's what the car came with. I also have the original carb, condition unknown. I'd have to rebuild it and test it. Fitment would require re-routing fuel lines.
  7. Is there a way to replace these? I don't recall them coming in the rebuild kit.
  8. Been working on this problem for a while... well more my dad then me, haven't been able to get to the garage in a while. Rebuilt Stromberg BXVD3 carb, New fuel system sans pump, points rotor etc. Vac is good. Put a manual choke on... I forget what else... Starts and idles perfectly but given throttle it bogs down. Cup your hand over the carb and revs fine. Pa thinks it just needs a new carb, thinks this one's "worn out and sucking air somehow" Any thoughts? Read my previous post about it giving me a hard time if you'd like... Thanks!
  9. Oh I'm hella cheap....this may be a viable option
  10. Haha that back bumper so flaky and sharp it would shred my towel. Currently trying to source a used on at a reasonable price
  11. https://imgur.com/gallery/y2ChJYY I went and did the BLO/MS ... 1 part blo to 2 parts ms. Came out better than expected.
  12. Yesterday Pa put new jets in the carb and vac adjusted the timing, drove for about 20 mins all seemed well. I got up there today, we drove it about 4mi and got gas and air in the tires, about 10mi (hitting about 55 mph) to parts store for exhaust clamps (didn't have) then 2mi to another store. Started chugging as soon as we left there. Limped er home. Minimal bubbles in the fuel filter...but, why only when it's significantly hot? Ran great for the first few stops...
  13. https://imgur.com/gallery/7fOzrBo click for pics Has some flaking, roof is pretty rusty. Also, dash is rust. I want to get the roughest of the stuff knocked down
  14. Ok ill have to give it a look. I knew clear coat required significant surface prep, where the linseed oil requires very little https://poppyspatina.com/products/shine-juice I assume this is the product?
  15. From what I read it's not a permanent thing, would need reapplied periodically
  16. Ah yeah this I know, I'll lay them out, hose them and let dry. Thanks for the reminder and the info for others that may not know.
  17. Hmm tell me more...
  18. Going to start "polishing the *******" so to speak. I want to preserve the patina, but first want to sand the flaking and rust a bit...is the paint leaded? Do I have to take any special precautions? Also, anyone have experience with linseed oil/mineral spirits? I like the look it gives, and it's much easier/cheaper for me right now than clear coat https://imgur.com/gallery/7fOzrBo
  19. Have to go through the fuel line. There bits that have been replaced by rubber, some new metal lines, some original. Could be anywhere, may just need a 100% replacement
  20. Look at what specifically? The belt? Yeah it's rough, we're getting there tho
  21. This has only happened twice, and yeah seems to be after it warms up. More tests may be needed. This second drive it def got worse as we drove further
  22. It was running pretty smoothly then started chugging on the last test drive. I had a rough pull-out on a slight incline and almost stalled it (learning how to drive a standard trans and especially on this car isn't easy lol) after, chugging. Barely made it home. Noticed air in my add on in line fuel filter (pretty sure it's a K&N glass tube with replaceable filter) by carb. I think it's sucking air into the fuel line. Tightened the ends of the filter Idles ok ish, but driving, can barely give it gas or it chugs itself out, sputtering, lurching.
  23. Ah yeah thanks for the reminder, never did that either
  24. So where's mine??? Can they break off? I mean, I suppose anything is possible...but is that a thing they go missing?
  25. Cara chugging badly after running smoothly for a few test drives. It seems to be getting fuel. Never set the timing so figured we'd do that. Click the link. According to the manual there's a pointer....am I blind or is it gone?? If it's there can you circle it and repost the pic plz? https://imgur.com/a/fOfAt7X
