How long does a rebuilt flathead engine smoke out the tailpipe?

was the engine board when rebuilt... an or was there a lot of oil in your exhaust system... -
only number found on engine was between head an water pump.... not on left side like all flat head iv seen... number is 81599

recently got a chrysler straight 8 not sure of year was told 38 i do know its pre 40 to look at it... number on engine is 81599 what i learned about the trans it may be a 36 or 37...can some find me a date.......

just got a reply text from a person that at frist did not believe it was an over drive when he saw a pic... he did some checking for me an i just got a reply from him.. he said it was a borg warner T86 chrysler used them in 36 37 only... guess my engine is a 36 37 not a 38 thanks for your info im in a learning curve here an im expreinced mechanic...

recentley bought straight 8 chrysler with trans... trans is a one piece casting and is longer than any three speed iv seen with a hump at the rear and a control on the left side.... i was told its a 38 and i believe its from an air flow....could it be an overdrive did they have overdrive at that time or could it be an internal park brake...?

for got to add in last post i believe it an the motor is from an air flow..

hello i need info about pre 40 transmission.. I believe it is a 38..... it is longer than a regular three speed one piece casting with a hump area at the rear and a control on left side... is this an over drive or an internal park brake..?
